Today I am continuing with the Daily UI Challenge #014. This brief was to design a Countdown Timer.
Today's hint:
Is it for an app? An interface for an oven? A sport related countdown? A launch countdown for NASA?
Tools:
Pencil sketching, AdobeXD, Adobe Photoshop.
My Challenge:
The Daily UI Challenge website tagline states "Be a Better Designer in 100 Days". After having completed a handful of the challenges now, I am beginning to notice some growth taking place in my work. The exercises have provided opportunities to check out, test, and compare new tools to ones that I would use regularly. I have also designed for different platforms than I would have. I can compare this daily challenge to another of my life experiences - fall preseason training. When I played soccer in college, my outdoor soccer skills would weaken during the long winter off-season. But after a week of "doubles", (2-hour long practices, 2 times a day, every day) the skills would return. This was time was focused and dedicated, so I had time to work on new skills as well. I see now that this is similar to the need to “practice” design, and why I feel this challenge is working for me.
"You have to practice and become better. Every Athlete, every musician practices everyday. Why would it be different for artists?"
-Christoph Niemann: Illustrator
Today I completed another challenge which was to design a countdown timer. I decided to design the timer for a fictitious yoga app for a fitness tracker. The app would shows an image of each yoga pose and a countdown timer would automatically display the recommended amount of time each pose should be held. The layout is minimal - including just the necessary elements to accommodate for a larger control button to make it easy as possible for users who would need to press this while exercising.
